Summer Student Position

 

Summer Program Assistant

Pictou County Women’s Resource and Sexual Assault Centre - New Glasgow, NS

Short term summer student position, 37.5 hours/week for 8 weeks. June 20, 2016 – August 19, 2016 Compensation at the federal minimum wage rate - $10.70 per hour.

The Summer Program Assistant will develop and deliver empowerment camps to girls and teens.

PCWRSAC has two mandates Direct Service and Social Change.

Our core services provide a safe and accessible place which is welcoming, non- judgemental and open to all women.

It is an environment where activities, programs and services are developed by and for women. Our direct services work in a feminist context.

 

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

-        Knowledge and critical feminist based analysis

-        Knowledge and skills about record keeping, program development, research and basic office duties

-        Excellent written and verbal communication skills

-        Facilitation and program delivery skills are an asset

-        Experience working with children and youth

-        Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to manage time effectively and complete tasks in an efficient manner

-        Demonstrated ability to work independently

-        Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality

 

Must be able to provide police record check and child abuse registry and have your own transportation.

 

Applicants must qualify under the condition of Canada Summer Jobs grant.

-        Must be between the ages of 15-30 at the start of employment.

-        Must have been registered as a full time student during the proceeding academic year

-        Intends to return to school on a full time basis during the next academic year

-        Is a student in a secondary, post secondary vocational or technical program

-        Is a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or a person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.

-        Is legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.

Preferences will be given to applicants enrolled in Women’s Studies, Social  Sciences, Child Development and Education.
